if it’s not immediately obvious, i’m a total beginner when it comes to web development; i’ll have this really cool idea that i can easily put to paper but is practically impossible for me, at my current skill level, to translate effectively to code. so in order to see this website done, i had to adopt two imperatives into my workflow:
- downsize your vision, start with something relatively simple and digitally possible. the more you code, the less this will become necessary i think. but at the start, especially if you want to get your project out of development hell, you can’t be too much of a perfectionist or be unwilling to compromise on your vision. as long as your website is finished, functional, and somewhat similar to what you had in mind, that’s a win in my book.
- don’t be afraid to use the resources available to you; a lot of this website uses code that is not entirely my own! rather, i’ve taken small components from other websites and tweaked them accordingly to work for me. not only is this a HUGE timesaver, it made certain aspects of my overall vision more realistically achieveable.
the rest of this page will be dedicated to those very resources so that everyone involved gets their due credit, and in hopes that fellow beginners will take advantage of the same (or similar) resources for the sake of making their own projects a reality. :D
